The National Chicano Moratorium Committee was re-formed in December 2, 1989 at a national meeting called by Union del Barrio and La Raza Unida Party in East Los Angeles over 20 people showed up from all over Occupied Mexico/Aztlan. The purpose of the meeting was to organize an Aztlan-wide mobilization for the "20th Commemoration of August 29th, 1970 National Chicano Moratorium" in East Los Angeles. That initiative resulted in the largest Raza mobilization since the height of the Chicano Movement, over 8,000 Raza participants marched the streets of East Los Angeles to Salazar Park on August 25, 1990. It was out of this organizing effort that many of those involved saw the need to build an organization that could bring a wide spectrum of our movement together to fight for Chicano Mexicano self determination in our own land. During that time, we have successfully organized four national mobilizations and have brought together any number of diverse forces to discuss and act on issues confronting la raza.

Due in no small part to the NCMC existence and tireless efforts, there has been a resurgence of militant, pro-independence politics in our community and we have made progress in breaking the US government imposed isolation our forces have suffered since the military defeat of the Chicano Power Movement in the mid-seventies because of this resurgence, the politics of self determination have successfully challenged the assimilationist, accomodationist politics of the sellout, "vendido" sector of our community which the system had been propping up- as our leaders for the better part of two decades.

NCMC existence is premised on the basic right of La Raza to pursue justice, equality, and a quality life devoid of racism, labor and economic exploitation, sexism/anti-sexual preference attitudes, inferior education, repression of culture and history, insufficient human services, racist immigration laws and law enforcement abuse. Plus all other actions and policies of the AmeriKKKan establishment meant to further oppress the Chicano Mexicano People. In addition we actively support the struggle of all oppressed peoples striving for National Liberation.
