The Legacy of Educating, Organizing, and Agitating: 1995-2012
In 1994, a movement for self-determination was taking place at local high schools and community colleges on the Oxnard Plain. This movement was led by a new generation of organizers and activists who wanted to expose the contradictions of colonialism, capitalism, and imperialism.
During the early months of 1994, Oxnard College MEChA (the majority of the founders of the CRR were members of this organization) started to organize against the racist initiative Proposition 187.
- Co-Organized Proposition 187 Walkouts, October 28, 1994.
- Co-Organized Proposition 187 Hunger Fast, November 6, 1994.
At the end of 1994, they decided to create an organization that would work towards creating revolutionary change and struggle against oppression. They learned from their mistakes while organizing the Proposition 187 Walkout and Hunger Fast. This organization would strive for true self-determination, justice, and democracy for the people of Oxnard and Occupied Mexico/Aztlán.
TIMELINE:
1995
- August 13, 1995: Established the National Chicano Moratorium Committee – Oxnard Region (NCMC – Oxnard Region).
- August 26, 1995: Participated in the 25th Commemoration of National Chicano Moratorium Committee in Los Angeles, CA.
- September 1, 1995: Organized the first mesa directiva of the NCMC – Oxnard Region.
1996
- August 10-15, 1996: Co-Organized the Anti-Republican National Convention March in San Diego, CA.
- September 21, 1996: Organized the 1st Commemoration of the founding of the NCMC – Oxnard Region. September 21, 1996. We changed our name to the Committee On Raza Rights (CRR).
- November 16, 2016: Co-Organized the 4th Annual National Raza Youth Liberation Conference.
